I got this beautiful 23 year old daughter who's the twinkle in my eye and she had been going through University for the longest time and I knew that she was going to be somebody one day!
I had not been lookin forward to the day when a young man came a courtin but it just had to happen eventually!
It was a Friday evening when the door bell rang and so I got up from my sittin chair in the parlor where I normally sit to catch up on some reading after supper when I'm home off the road.
I opened the front door to a fine lookin young man holding a bunch of flowers and a small box of Laura Secord chocolats who asked to see my little angel.
Well! in a flash my angel come tearin around the corner from the kitchen and said," It's alright Daddy,he's my friend and quickly invited him in rushing him past me and back into the kitchen where Mother was still doin dishes.
I waited for awhile and then as all good fathers would do,tiped toed quietly into the kitchen to git a closer look at the feller who just happened to be sittin plum in my favorite kitchen rockin chair.
He had the nerve sittin in my rockin chair so I guess this meant that now I could start asking him a few questions like all good fathers do.( Right! )
After a tight session of interogation with good ol' dad,he seemed to check out alright and he seemed to be not too bad at all but then I asked him what he did for a livin and that's when my bubble burst cause he responded softly,
I work fer the Teamsters Sir!!
I just about fell on the dang floor face first as I loudly said,
" You do what? "
and he again responded! " I work fer the Teamsters Sir "
I just stood there dumb struck while My imagination started to run wild with images of Hit Men and Gangsters
walkin around with leather violin cases when I was suddenly brought back to reality by Mama saying " have ya checked yer e-mail today Pa?
I knew Mama wanted me down in the basement where the computer is so she could slap me without the kids seein it!
I knew I was in trouble with Mama, so I high tailed it down into the basement and sure enough, she come down to me,she did'nt slap me but she softly said,
" Now com'on Pa,give em a chance,he seems like a nice enough boy!
Well! to make a long story short! That dang Teamster married my daughter a year later and today, I love em both to death and folks, you could'nt have a nicer son in law than my Teamster son in law.
If only Jimmy could be here today!
