I put 1 in my house and the other at my internet computer shop, we cannot communicate using it, by the way the distance of my house & the shop are about 35 km.
Before i bought it we tested it at the distance of 100 meters and it was working good, what do you think is the problem? please i am desperate already help me!!!
By the way-is it ok to put a CB in a computer shop? maybe it got something to do with the frequency?
please bear with me cause this is my first time to use this kind of radio. Thank you and Godbless you all!

Default Linear amp

Has anyone had any luck running a linear through these dash mount power studs ? ( Installed in Yellow freight tractors where you hook up CB ) I was wondering if I can run my 450 watt amp through there using aligator clip's, or do I have to run power straight from the battery?.
If that's the case I guess I'll be selling a linear. LOL
Thanks in advance. Scotsman

What if any mods are recommended and within reason price wise for a Cobra 29? Obviously this is an inexpensive radio and there is a limit to what it can do and what it's worth spending on it. What would a basic peak and tune (whatever that means) consist of? Should it make reception better as well as broadcast? What mike works best on this radio?

Default Export Radios vs. CB's

I've been driving and using radios for a number of years, and I have what I think is a relatively simple question.

1. I've heard alot of hands say they can talk 5 to 12 miles with an export radio. I can do the same thing with a Cobra 29 or my old Cobra 21 GTL. What is the point of going to the extra expense of buying an export radio just to accomplish the same thing at a much higher price?

2. In days gone by when a radio was tuned up, the "dead key" was turned up (more power out), and the swing was for the most part irrelevant because "swing" was only pertenant to side band. Now days when I tell a tech I want the dead key turned up they look at me like I'm crazy. My cobra 21 GTL with a dead key of 7 watts and a swing of 15 will out talk alot of "high power" radios. What gives.

I have talked on the radio for many year's and have heard many people say they could talk several miles.
Just because they had an export radio. Well that just does not make any sense, because in reality it is not the "export radio" doing it.
It is the antenna and swr or match that allows a radio to talk. Also you have to have the ideal condition's to be able to talk. Having a illegal export radio does nothing.
My idea of a ideal setup to talk would be. A older Cobra 29 for a radio and a Wilson 5000 for a antenna. I have owned many Cobra 29's and they by far sound cleaner than any illegal export radio I think.

The best sound comes from a radio when actually the dead key is turned down. The higher the dead key the less clean a radio sounds as far as modulation goes.
The dead key is set to a lower setting many times so that "you" can safely hook up a amp to the radio without burning it(amp) up.
But if you never plan to run a amp then I would say you have a pretty good setup as far as the radio.
I don't know what kind of antenna you have, but if you want to be on top get yourself a wilson 2000 or 5000.

Yes you need to run your amp straight from the battery. It will not work properly if you starve it on power, and will probably blow it up.

Well I will start with the obvious. Do you have the antenna hooked up? Do you have your mic plugged in, some radios will not recieve without the mic plugged in.

Not to sound like a smarta** but if it worked before unless you dropped it.....it should work, if you have the obvious thing's mentioned before hooked up.
If all the above is ok then you will need to take it to a radio tech and have them checked out.

If it were mine I would take it to a qualified technician and have it peeked and tuned.
This will make it talk and recieve better. Usually just makes it talk better, you can have the recieve turned up on any radio but usually they come from the factory already tuned to optium recieve.

I have paid anywhere from $25.00 to $75.00 for a peek and tune modification. But I have not had one done in year's they may have gone up. The main thing I would invest in is a good antenna. You can spend $1000.00 on a radio and have a $5.00 antenna and won't talk across the street.

Depends on what kind of CB you have. If it is just a plain 40 channel AM radio and you did not key it down and try to talk on it.........it might run it.

Also depending on what surge the power converter has it might not hurt it to talk on the radio. The main thing you don't want to starve the radio for power. Just spend a few more dollars and get a bigger power converter then you don't have to worry.
