Default Do you have XM or Sirus radio?

I used to have the XM radio. It was pretty good for them long boring trips. I had all of it it worked pretty nice in the house also.
I got rid of mine since now I drive "brand new" truck's delivering them all over the USA and Canada. We are not supposed to hook any electronic's up in the "new" truck's.
Besides it would just be something else for TSA to screw with at the airport's.

Default XM radio antenna

Is anyone else using XM in their trucks?
If so, I could use some advice.

I just received an XM radio last weekend as a gift, and I set it up in my 2002 Freightliner Century Class. Using the antenna that came with the car kit, whether I put it forward on the dash at the base of the windshield, or mounted on the mirror bar, I would lose signal every few minutes. Sometimes it would only cut out for a moment, other times the drop-out would last for a few minutes. After chatting with a few other drivers on CB, I was advised to use the larger antenna that came with the home kit instead, and put it on the dash. Having done that, the problem is a little less, but still very annoying. I drive from Detroit to Traverse City Michigan and back every day. This XM is wonderful, but the intermittant signal is going to drive me batty!
I've seen the truck antennas for sale on the web (the XM500 and the SR-3653) but I'm reluctant to shell out $70-$80 if there's a better (cheaper) solution.
Anybody have advice for the new-to-XM driver?

When I had XM a few year's ago I took the small antenna and mounted it on top of the mirriorr bracket where the cb antenna mounts. Using a flat antenna bracket made for a CB I just dropped it in and put the CB antenna thru the extra mounting bracket.
It worked really well, except for overhanging trees and running thru tunnels or running beside very tall building's.

Do you have the sleeper window that is located in the center of the sleeper on top?
I have seen some driver's mount the antenna's there as well. Other than that I would call XM and ask them maybe. What I have seen those huge XM antenna's where a waste of money when I had mine. Hope this help's

I Use Sirius, It and XM are basically the same in my opinion, but lets get to the issue at hand.

I used to have the same probs you describe. I finally mounted my home (larger) Antennae with velcro to the sunroof (Inside of it) of the truck. Much better reception now. still once in a while an occasional overpass will interupt signal. FYI th little mouse style antenae i gave up on. I leave it on my sports car here at home.

I have mine mounted with double sided tape to a antenna mount on the right side mirror, out towards the end. Every once in a while I lose signal from trees, close rock walls and such but only till I clear them.

The home antenna, is directional, not real good for moving around with

I've got both. I started with XM, but I had to get Sirius for the NFL. There were a couple of talk shows that weren't on Sirius, so I kept them both. For me, there are more classic rock stations on Sirius and the comedy channels were better on XM until Sirius got Blue Collar comedy, and I wanted to check out the other trucking shows which I prefer on Sirius.

I use the standard car antenna's that came with the Roady, one on each mirror. I tend to lose the signal on XM (besides next cliffs and overpasses) more when I'm going Northeast, I'm sure that's because the antenna is low on the drivers side. And I'm too lazy to do anything about it right now.

Sirius loses signal more on overpasses than XM, probably a bigger buffer on the Roady then the Star, I don't know.
