Default Rome is burning

I sometimes wonder how some people with a half a brain get good paying jobs in positions of authority.

For instance!!

Around the 10th of Novemember 2007 a historical restaurant located in Rouses Point New York right along the Quebec Canadian border caught on fire.

New York state Firefighters from the area mustered up all of their units and equipement in order to put the flames out and save the restaurant but to no avail, so they decided to call on their Firefighting neighbors for assistance in Quebec Canada which is just a few miles up the road and across the border.

New York State has had a long time agreement with Quebec Canada in regards to assistance in case of natural disasters and civil emergencies where
Canadians will rush across the American border in rescue of Americans and Americans will do the same for Canadians.

( Good neighbors )

On the night of the Rouses Point New York fire, Canadian firefighters quickly responded to the cry for help from New York State firefighters with sirens blairing and lights flashing but were intercepted and stopped by American Customs Agents who held them at the border for eight long minutes all the while a beautiful historical New York restaurant was burning to the ground!!

Now! I don't pretend to be the sharpest knife in the drawer folks, but something tells me that there is something gone awful wrong with the Homeland Security plan!!

Mexicans are coming across the southern border like it was open house and some US Senators are now saying that terrorists are among them, yet Northern US border guards are stopping Canadian emergency rescue and firefighting units from assisting Americans in times of extreme life and death situations!!

Ooopps!! Someone call the guy in charge and tell em that the imates have taken over the asylum!!

I have always had a great deal of respect for authority but it seems lately that things are a little out of control and it's gettin a little scarey!!

Maybe I'll wake up and someone will tell me that I was having a bad dream!!

It sure doesn't make much sense does it. There ought to be somekind of method to have preclearance. Have a dispatcher call ahead, IM somebody, fax clearance something.. If we can get a truckload of autoparts cleared, why can't we get a firetruck?

I understand they're thinking a terrorist could use an emergency vehicle.. but we need a little common sense here..
