Operation Sun Youth 2007 was a huge success because of caring Truckers!
Operation Sun Youth for disabled children is another brand new mission truckers have takin on in regards to disabled children.
On the 28th of May 2007, a group of big burly truckers drove their shiny rumbling 18 wheelers onto the school grounds of a tiny village school for children with special needs bringing gifts, money and lots of laughs and happiness.
Most of these children are confined to wheelchairs but truckers ensured that everyone last one of the children were hoisted up into the trucks for a sit down behind the wheel.
I nearly broke down and cried when I seen their faces all lit up, laughing and carrying on like it was Christmas all over again, and I'm talkin about those big hairy truckers folks!
One BIG UGLY MEAN trucker in particular and I won't mention his name nor the company he drives for, but he is usually a real serious type of guy with a deep raspy voice and he looks like someone you would'nt want to meet in a dark alley or something you might see in the gorrilla section of your local zoo, but on the day of Operation Sun Youth that big ugly trucker became a kid again, lifting severely disabled kids outta their wheel chairs one by one and up into the drivers seat of his big black Kenworth,handing out cookies and jokin around like he was on his first day outta school.
I have known this big ugly trucker for over 20 years and never knew that he had a sweet tender side to him!!
I don't think that I have ever seen him even smile in 20 years
or say more than two or three words in one sentence.
The children were something else folks and Operation Sun Youth will remain in my heart and mind for a long, long time and to tell you the truth, I think the children did more for us crusty old truckers than we did for them!!
